DIY Christmas Ornaments with Empty Coffee Pods

Calling all artsy and non-artsy people alike! Whether you’ve got the DIY gene or not, if you have a few extra minutes, some empty VitaCup pods, and a bit of holiday spirit, these unique and super easy Christmas decorations are for you!

What’s better than recycling your VitaCup pods? Turning them into adorable Christmas tree ornaments! We had some fun playing around with our empty pods (yes, we had quite a few) and found some great ways to reuse them for arts and craft time. Adults and kids will have fun making these VitaCup infused decorations that will give your home or office some holiday cheer. We crafted a few characters to spark your creativity, but the options are endless for ornament friends! Read on to see how we created these festive decor pieces and then let the imagination run wild...

DIY Reuse Coffee Pod Christmas Craft Supplies

Materials Used: 

  • Leftover Vitacup coffee pods and tea pods
  • Brown and beige paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Large and small googly eyes
  • White and Red Felt paper
  • Pipe cleaners
  • White and Red puffballs
  • Krazy glue OR hot glue gun
  • X-acto knife
  • Paperclips or ornament hangers

Directions to Re-Create Santa:

  1. Start with a clean dry pod (grounds and filter have been disposed of)
  2. Paint the entire outside of the pod beige and let it dry completely (2 coats is best)
  3. Make Santa's hat by cutting a semi-circle shape in the red felt paper (one edge straight and one edge is curved) 
  4. Create a cone shape out of the semicircle (the curved side is the bottom of the hat) and glue the proper seem
  5. Adhere white pipe cleaner to the bottom of the hat and a white puffball to the top of the hat
  6. Cut a beard shape and a mustache shape out of the white felt paper and adhere the beard, then the mustache on top using Krazy glue or a hot glue gun
  7. Use Krazy glue or a hot glue gun to adhere small googly eyes 
  8. Poke a hole in the top and back of the pod to slide a paperclip through to hang the ornament (or it can just be tabletop / mantle decor!)

Directions to Re-Create Rudolph:

  1. Start with a clean dry pod (grounds and filter have been disposed of)
  2. Paint the entire outside of the pod brown and let it dry completely (2 coats is best)
  3. Cut brown pipe cleaner into small sections to create Rudolph's antlers and twist the pieces around each other to make them stay 
  4. Use Krazy glue or a hot glue gun to adhere large googly eyes and the red nose
  5. Use an X-acto knife to poke holes on each side of Rudolph's head and push the antlers through (**PARENT TASK)
  6. Poke a hole in the top and back of the pod to slide a paperclip through to hang the ornament (or it can just be tabletop / mantle decor!)
  7. Enjoy your finished product!
