Does Coffee or Heat Destroy Vitamins?

If you are passionate about your nutrition, you might have some questions about how heat works with vitamins. Some doctors have been known to advise patients to wait for a certain amount of time before or after taking vitamins to drink a morning cup of coffee.  As a result, we often get customers who ask: “Aren’t vitamins destroyed by heat during the brewing process?”

Good news. We’ve thought of this too, and we’ve taken steps to make sure you get the vitamin values you are looking for with your daily VitaCup. Our goal is to help you get your essential vitamins WHILE drinking your morning coffee or tea, without sacrificing taste. Many people forget to take their vitamins but they rarely skip their coffee.

While getting vitamins from food is a great way to maintain a healthy lifestyle, it can be challenging to get the balanced nutrition on a daily basis.  For some individuals, meeting the requirements of their recommended daily value of vitamins is very challenging. VitaCup is here to help overcome obstacles such as occasional forgetfulness, indulgences, or even compromised absorption, for a tasty and convenient way to help provide the essential vitamins that approximately 40% of the US population is deficient in.

In fact, food sources are often the biggest culprits of heat destroying the vitamins’ nutritional values.  Food-based vitamins can usually be cooked out during meal preparation, and not everyone is up to consuming the raw vegetables that would be required to get as much benefit as they desire.  However, our vitamins are selected for their heat resistant properties. We individually source and choose vitamins that can stand up to the heating process so they won’t be destroyed when you brew your favorite hot beverage in the morning.

How do You Make Sure the Vitamins Last After Heating?

Since vitamin benefits are a crucial feature of our brand, we take the efficacy of the vitamins very seriously. We have carefully measured the amount needed to ensure we stay at the stated value on our boxes after the brewing process. The vitamin values listed on the Nutrition Facts label are measured at the lab after the brewing process has occurred and are based on what a standard brew would provide to you.  Rigorous testing was performed by a third party to ensure that our vitamin content remains at the levels stated in our ingredients listings.

What About Heat and Vitamin Absorption?

Everyone absorbs vitamins differently.  This has more to do with the personal digestion and intestinal health and is difficult to measure without the assistance of a physician. Heat itself is generally not a recognized factor in the absorption process.

How Does Caffeine Affect Vitamin Absorption?

Many of our customers ask about the effects of caffeine on vitamin absorption as well.  While some vitamins have been shown to be less effective when consumed with caffeine, some absorb more effectively with caffeine. For example, Vitamin B12 (which is what can give you the most energy from our pods) is aided in the process. Caffeine stimulates the production of stomach acid, which especially increases absorption of Vitamin B12.

Production Standards & Quality Assurance

Our coffee pods and tea pods are prepared in a US-based USDA approved food facility.  We make our coffee and teas and then combine with vitamin products which are produced in FDA Registered Manufacturing Facilities.

We hope we've helped separate vitamin and heat facts and myths for you.  We want to make sure you are confident that you'll get your essential vitamins in VitaCup - it's so easy, it is a no-brainer. If you have any more questions, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team.
